We face year five of the war in Iraq. Almost a million dead and two and a half million refugees. The victims are disproportionately women and children.
Join the Kootenay Region Branch of the United Nations Association in Canada together with the USCC Working Group on Peace and Justice for a march and rally protesting this affront to our humanity.
On Saturday, March 15 we shall start at 2:00 pm on our march from Stephenville Square to the Castlegar Courthouse where we will hold our programme.
Make a placard or carry one of our traditional Peace Doves which will be provided. Come, be present for peace, speak for peace and hear your community's call for peace.
We shall have a programme of speakers and music.
Surely this will be the last time we have to do this?

PEACE CAFE AND TEACH-IN ON CANADA'S MISSION IN AFGHANISTAN
On Saturday, March 15, 2008, Nelson Peace Coalition in affiliation with Canadian Peace Alliance, will hold a Peace Cafe and Teach-In on the mission in Afghanistan.
Join us at Nelson United Church, 2-5 pm, for an inspiring, informative afternoon of activism.
Program will include NDP MP Alex Atamanenko, Francisco Juarez (former Canadian Army Lieutenant who refused deployment to Afghanistan) , and several local speakers and poets. Selections from "Winter Soldier: Iraq & Afghanistan," featuring testimony from U.S. veterans who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground, will be shown.
The Raging Grannies and other local musicians will provide entertainment. Literature tables, opportunities to take action, and delicious food and drinks will be available. Free and open to the public. Donations gratefully accepted.

We will hold a rally at Sarnia City Hall on Saturday, March 15, 2008 .
Starting at 11:00 AM , live and recorded music will play songs of peace. Booths will be set up from human rights agencies offering information and letter or petition signing opportunities. Speakers will have the chance to voice their concern at a speaker’s corner, and guest speakers will speak to us regarding what actions are being taken, and can be taken to help support a peaceful resolution for Canadians in Afghanistan . There will be activities for children. The rally will last for two hours.
Our two keynote speakers are Lila Lipscomb and Joshua Randall. Lila was featured at length in the Michael Moore film Fahrenheit 911. Twenty year old Josh served 5 months in Iraq as a medic before coming to Canada as a War Resister in January.

Assemble at 12 noon in Centennial Square (City Hall) for a marimba band and musician Bryan Skinner, and speaker Zainum Bahadshah, whose family hails from Afghanistan.
Then join us for a march downtown for a die-in on Douglas Street leading up to the military recruitment centre, followed by a continued march downtown, with a stop by the Immigration office where US war resister Brad McCall will speak.
Finally, we will march to St. Andrew's Church (Douglas at Broughton) for a young speaker, more music, showing of the Winter Soldier video by the Iraq Veterans Against the War, plus information tables, refreshments, and the chance to get better acquainted with fellow peace lovers.
Bring your friends, family, colleagues, neighbours, and lots of noisemakers (spoons and pans make a great contribution)
