The observance of the day was also aimed at to highlight the long-standing unsettled dispute of Jammu & Kashmir at international level and apprise the people of Jammu & Kashmir that they are not alone in this hour of trial and turmoil.
As a mark of respect to the valiant struggle of Kashmiri people and to pay homage to their martyrs, one-minute silence was observed at 10 a.m. and all rail and road traffics came to a standstill. Thousands of people belonging to AJK and different areas of Pakistan gathered at various places linking Pakistan and AJK to demonstrate that both the people share bonds of love and affection.
In federal capital Islamabad, several rallies were taken out by thousands of people belonging to different segments of the civil society. The participants of the rallies raised slogans in the favour of Kashmiris’ struggle for freedom and against the Indian imperialism and brutalities against innocent people of held Kashmir.

AFP adds: Riot police used teargas to disperse hundreds of protesters who tried to reach the residence of the deposed chief justice in Islamabad, witnesses and officials said.
The procession - originally held to mark the Kashmir Solidarity Day - was stopped before it reached the house of deposed judge Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Police fired three tear-gas shells at the stone-throwing demonstrators who dispersed and no arrests were reported. The protesters were led by Jamaat-i-Islami Chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed.
The demonstrators chanted slogans against President Pervez Musharraf, who sacked Iftikhar Chaudhry on November 3 under a state of emergency. Iftikhar Chaudhry remains under detention despite the lifting of the emergency in mid-December.
