KARACHI: The Grand Mufti of Pakistan has called upon President Pervez Musharraf to honour demand of the people of Pakistan, particularly religious leaders (Ulema) of the country and relinquish the post of the president immediately.
Grand Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani, also head of the Jamia Darul Aloom Karachi, in an exclusive interview with the Geo News TV channel said that Musharraf came into power through the extra-constitutiona l steps so he was unable to bring complete peace and tranquility in the country. He alleged that Musharraf has pushed the people to the wall.
Mufti Usmani while referring the Lal Masjid incident claimed that they had made Ghazi Abdul Rasheed agree to leave the mosque and in this regard an agreement was also signed between the negotiation team and Ghazi at 2:00 night. However, the presidency suddenly changed its decision and the mosque and madressa along with the students were ruined to ashes.
He said the ongoing suicide attacks in the country were reaction to the anti-Islam and negative policies of the present government.
