KARACHI: The general elections 2008 for the national and provincial assemblies are being held across the country on Monday. Security has been tightened in the country with deployment of Rangers and police contingents at polling stations while the troops were on alert to meet any untoward situation.
Camp offices have been set up in all five districts of Karachi.. Ballot papers and other election material were handed over to the polling staff in Lahore.
Polling material for 13 national assembly and 25 provincial assembly seats of Lahore was given away to the election staff at the offices of returning officers. The polling material included ballot papers, ballot boxes, and inerasable ink, markers, stamps and stamp pads.
The material was transferred to various polling stations under strict police security.
Rangers and police contingents have been deployed at polling stations in Karachi, while the troops were on alert to meet any untoward situation.
Karachi’s polling stations have been handed over to Rangers and Police today ahead of the general elections.
The authorities have declared 1100 polling stations in the city extremely sensitive and another 1300 categorized as sensitive out of the total 3566 polling stations in the metropolis.
