THE Chairman of Assembly of Experts says the Islamic Republic waits for the day when American politicians gain wisdom.

“It is not rational to threaten a nation with sanctions and the use of force, it is sheer malice”, said Tehran's interim Friday prayers leader, Ayatollah Ali-Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani.

He urged Washington to halt its wrong and hostile policies towards Tehran.

Turning to the ongoing occupation in Iraq, he said the White House had drawn its forces into a quagmire, where billions of dollars are wasted and Americans continue to lose their lives every day.

“While one expects Washington to learn from its past mistakes, it is disappointing to see the US administration insist on committing the same mistakes,” he added.

“American officials are wrong to assume they can curb the power of Islam by making threats and launching psywar,” Ayatollah Rafsanjani continued.

He said the international community should be patient with Iran, as the country is cooperating with the UN nuclear watchdog to resolve all ambiguities about its peaceful nuclear program.
