ACCORDING to a new opinion poll released late Sunday 60 % of all Americans strongly desire for change of direction after nearly seven years of President George W. Bush's rule.
Only 24 percent of those surveyed think the nation is on the right track, and three-quarters said they want the next president to chart a different political course.
The survey done by The Washington Post and ABC News indicates that Democrats, three-quarters of Independents and even half of Republicans urge a new direction.
More than 60% believe the war in Iraq was not right, and nearly two-thirds gave the national economy negative marks. About 70% see an economic recession as likely over the next year.
Bush's popularity declines for the four consecutive months. Only 23% approved his policies, while 64% disapproved them.
