LAHORE (Pakistan): Jamaat Islami has harshly condemned the manhandling and arrest of Pakistan Tehrik Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan at Punjab University at the hands of students union and administration.
According to a statement issued by JI media cell Wednesday, JI secretary general Syed Munawar Hasan, naib ameer and other office bearers who are also former presidents of Punjab university students union including Liaqat Baloch, Hafiz Idris, Farid Paracha and Amirul Azim termed the incident as highly unfortunate and a conspiracy against the unity of the opposition parties. They said the incident is a stigma on the face of Punjab University students regarding their political history of struggles for restoration of constitution, democracy and civil liberties. The JI leaders held that certain miscreants are responsible for the whole incident and expressed complete solidarity with PTI chairman Imran Khan saying that certain miscreants and narrow minded elements could not be able to damage the unity of opposition parties, their collective objectives and struggle.
Meanwhile, JI ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad while taking serious notice of the incident has constituted an inquiry committee comprising top JI officials to probe the incident, the statement concluded.
