The highest Sikh temporal seat on Sunday declared the assassins of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as martyrs of the community.
According to Press Trust of India, at a special religious function, organized at the Akal Takht in Amrirsar, India, that was attended and headed by its Jathedar (highest religious figure) Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti. Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh were hailed for targeting Gandhi for "sending the Indian Army to the Golden Temple for Operation Blue Star in 1984" and declared them as martyrs of Sikh Panth.
Satwant Singh and Kehar were hanged to death on January 6, 1989 for killing the former Prime Minister Indra Gandhi at New Delhi.
