ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russian Federation have agreed to cooperate in the field of agriculture business, said an official statement.
A three-member quarantine delegation from Russian Federation has met senior officials of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and discussed aspects of cooperation.
The Russian delegation agreed to withdraw the ban on import of all citrus fruits and mangoes from Pakistan.
This would also include withdrawal of ban on export to the Central Asian Republic (CARs). It was agreed that similar withdrawal of ban on other agricultural produce would also be made in the coming months.
The statement said that this is a major breakthrough as Russian Federation is the largest importer of Kinnow (citrus fruits) from Pakistan and it is being expected that in the current season more than 60,000 tons of Kinnows would be exported to the Russian Federation.
Pakistan has been exporting a large quantity of Kinnows up to 40,000 tons, rice and other agricultural produce to the Russian Federation and the CARs. Due to presence of some pests in rice exported to the Russian Federation, the Russian Government had imposed ban on import of all agricultural produce from Pakistan.
