SPEAKING for myself, I have lost a whole lot of respect for CAIR-National over the past few years; the following [CAIR released] reports graphically illustrate why. Once again CAIR has shamelessly signed on to the nefarious agenda spearheaded by Zionists, Muslim-loathing Christian evangelicals, and geo-political agenda driven neo-cons! Shame on CAIR; shame on ISNA; and shame on our two Muslim politicians on Capitol Hill.
What makes this theater so bad is that CAIR (along with other "major Muslim organizations") were thoroughly DISSED by the so-called "Save Darfur Coalition" a couple of years ago (when they had their rally on Capitol Hill); and this, despite these organizations' willingness to be Islamically-flavored WINDOW DRESSING on the Save Darfur Coalition's roster. And yet still they find it possible to stand with this deeply exploitative and discredited organization at a press conference!
(CAIR long ago quietly expressed their refusal to participate in any public initiative with the likes of me, but they can proudly stand with the likes of the Save Darfur Coalition?!)
If my brothers and sisters reading this are sensing anger in my words, you are correct, I am angry. I am angry for a number of reasons:
1). The crisis in Darfur has been maliciously politicized for far too long, and this has deepened and prolonged the very real humanitarian crisis that grips the people of that region!
2). Meanwhile, the political and humanitarian crisis in Somalia SOMALIA (which in many respects is worse than the crisis in Darfur, and is in large part U.S. driven) is largely ignored.
3). The genocide and ongoing HOLOCAUST in Occupied Palestine (facilitated by some of the same elements who are manipulating the propaganda around Darfur) is being largely ignored - in terms of any SUBSTANTIVE, Muslim orchestrated redress!
4). Meanwhile by repeating some of the same loaded language that these shameless propagandists are using, our "leaders" help to confuse the issue, and provide convenient COVER for the propagandists to pursue their damnable agenda! SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on those of us who are willing to do this (for whatever the reason)!
We've suggested many times in the past, and we say it again now: those Muslim leaders and organizations who CLAIM to be sincerely concerned about the Darfur issue (and I have come to believe that those who are sincerely concerned are few and far between) should ORGANIZE A MAJOR CONFERENCE - and invite ALL to the table who have researched and written about this issue (for healthy dialogue and debate) - and then let the fact-based chips fall where they may.
Stop the pandering, self-seeking, politically safe BULL **** - and start responding to the major issues of the day as the self-respecting Muslim leaders that you're supposed to be!
May ALLAH forgive me for the anger and contempt that I feel right now.

CAIR Joins Call for Action to End Darfur Violence
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/14/2008) - A representative of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today joined a press conference titled “Muslim Voices on Darfur,” which was hosted by Amnesty International and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. CAIR National Director Tahra Goraya called for greater action and leadership, particularly from the Bush administration, to end the conflict and suffering that has plagued the region since 2003. At least 200,000 people have been killed and 2.3 million displaced as a result of violence. . . Donald Payne (D-NJ), Chairman of the Africa and Global Health Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, spoke, as did Representatives Barbara Lee (D-CA), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and Andre Carson (D-IN). Congress' two Muslim members urged the U.S. government on Wednesday to lead efforts to end the violence in Sudan's Darfur region, where more than 200,000 people have died and 2.5 million have been displaced.
Reps. Keith Ellison of Minnesota and Andre Carson of Indiana joined other black Democratic lawmakers making that call at a "Muslim Voices for Darfur" news conference on Capitol Hill Wednesday. Sudan is a predominantly Muslim African nation.
Ellison, a freshman lawmaker, asked Sudan's government to stop the violence. "I further call on Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to exert all available influence on the international community and on the parties to the conflict," he said, "and I especially urge Secretary Rice to engage allies among majority-Muslim nations and the African Union."
Ellison was elected as the nation's first Muslim member of Congress in 2006. Carson became the second after winning a special election this year to fill the remainder of his late grandmother's term.
"We talk about America being one of the greatest nations on earth," Carson said. "If we are to have that title ... we need to step out on the world front and be a leader on this issue."
Fighting has raged in Darfur since 2003, when ethnic African tribesman took up arms, complaining of decades of neglect and discrimination by the Sudanese Arab-dominated government. The Sudanese government is accused of unleashing janjaweed militia forces to commit atrocities against ethnic African communities in the fight with rebel groups. The Sudanese government in Khartoum denies the accusations. President Bush has labeled the situation there genocide.
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, issued the most direct challenge to the Bush administration. "It's time for Secretary Rice to make a singular mission to Africa on the genocide in Sudan," she said, "... and not come back until troops are on the ground, until the African Union is reinforced, until the Khartoum government is aware of our seriousness that the genocide must stop."
