KABUL (Afghanistan): The Taliban insurgents recaptured Gulistan district of western Afghan Farah province Friday, provincial governor Mohaidin Baloch said.

While confirming the news with Xinhua, the governor said the government forces have moved out of the district to prevent war with the militants and the ensuing civilian casualties and property damage.

The past several weeks have witnessed the repeatedly change of control over Gulistan between the local government and the militants.

Rising militancy-related violent incidents have killed over 5,800 people so far this year in the war-torn Afghanistan.

The Taliban, removed from power by the U.S. invasion in late 2001, has waged insurgency against Afghan administration and the international troops deployed in the country.
